State Closes Day Care in Home Where Guns, Drugs Seized: Report

Police arrest woman who cared for children in the home's basement.

State authorities have closed down an unlicensed day care center in a local home where Gwinnett County police on Friday seized drugs and guns, according to a media report.

Kinshasa Ray, the 37-year-old woman who ran the day care in the Snellville-area house, was taken into custody Sunday on a charge of reckless conduct, WGCL-TV (CBS46) reported. She bonded out of jail Monday morning.

The Georgia Department of Early Day Care and Learning said the day care at 4575 Ashington Drive was shut down after the police found guns, cash, counterfeit currency, drugs and packaging material in the home. The police found much of the contraband adjacent to the basement room where four to six children were cared for daily.

The police raided the home and arrested three people as part of a drug investigation.

At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, officers acted on a tip that drugs were being sold out of the residence when they pulled over a driver who had just left the house. Jimmy Simpkins, 41, was found with cocaine and was charged with possession of a controlled substance, as well as with driving on a suspended license and a tag-light violation.
