Studies to Improve Busy Intersections Underway
Peachtree Corners city leaders announced the city will begin traffic studies on S.R. 141 and Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Holcomb Bridge Road.

Nov. 3, 2015 – Along with the recent announcement that the City of Peachtree Corners will break ground on its new Town Center in the spring, the city is also planning on making improvements to several of its major intersections.
“As the city and neighboring towns grow, so does the traffic,” said Mayor Mike Mason. “We recognize the need to find ways to ease congestion, improve intersections and ensure pedestrians are able to cross our busy roads safely.”
The City of Peachtree Corners will be managing several new intersection analysis projects. These projects will assess the current traffic conditions and recommend improvements to the intersection’s geometry, signal timing and pedestrian facilities. The projects will be funded by the 2013 SPLOST, and each of the three projects is set to begin within the next two weeks.

The first of the projects is a Joint SPLOST project with the Gwinnett County DOT, and it covers the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Holcomb Bridge Road. The City hopes to improve the signal timing by realigning the intersections existing left turn movements and allowing for a single phase of green for the opposing left turn lanes. Improvements to pedestrian facilities and other geometric changes will be included.
The next project involves analysis of four intersections along State Route 141: Spalding Drive, Peachtree Corners Circle, the entrance to the Forum/Town Center Developments and East Jones Bridge Road. Assessments will be made at these four locations for existing and future traffic demand, and recommendations will be made for future geometric and signal timing improvements.

The third project includes a study of improvement possibilities at Peachtree Corners Circle at Medlock Bridge Road and at Peachtree Corners Circle at Eastman Trail. The Medlock Bridge Road intersection will include a feasibility study for a traffic roundabout and may include concept designs if the feasibility criteria are met. The Eastman Trail location will include design recommendations for pedestrian facility improvements, which could include upgraded pedestrian signals, lighting and improved safety crossings.
In addition, Peachtree Corners and the city of Johns Creek have agreed to undertake a joint study of the S.R. 141 corridor; the goal is to optimize the existing intersections through the entire corridor and determine key projects that could reduce congestion and improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians. Peachtree Corners has applied for an Atlanta Regional Commission project to fund the study.
