The Cupcakes Are Coming

Gigi's Cupcakes are bringing new sweet treats to Peachtree Corners at the Forum shopping center.

A real Peachtree Corners venture is opening up at the Forum Shopping Center. Lifetime resident Deena Coughlin along with husband Sean, are opening Gigi’s Cupcakes on Thursday, June 16th. The fourth Gigi’s to open in the Atlanta area, local residents are sure to enjoy this new addition.

Coughlin’s parents moved to Berkeley Lake when there were only 10 houses there and that’s where she grew up. Coughlin graduated from Norcross High School and after college worked as a CPA for an advertising agency. Most recently she has been a stay at home mom with two boys Colby 9, and Cameron 5. With Cameron ready to enter school what better time to open a cupcake store? And the boys couldn’t agree more.

Sean Coughlin was born in the Atlanta area but grew up in Nashville. Here in Atlanta a little over a year ago, he reconnected with an old friend from his high school days who happened to be opening a Gigi’s in Sandy Springs. Recognizing Gigi’s as a great new bakery, Sean and Deena soon decided to bring it to Peachtree Corners.

When asked if the batter and icing are shipped in in big batches Coughlin said, “No. Every single cake, filling and frosting are made fresh daily in the store.” That will require her and her staff to arrive at 5 a.m. to begin baking. Not only are the cupcakes made fresh but they’re made of all natural ingredients like butter, milk and eggs.

I had the opportunity to taste some of these delightful cakes and couldn’t have been more pleased. I hate to admit it, but I tasted at least five of them. “Tasted” is the key word. I did not eat five whole cupcakes. I really liked them all. For my personal taste buds the Hunka Chunka Banana Love was dear to my heart followed closely by the Midnight Magic Chocolate Chip. The Wedding Cake cupcake is the best seller over all, with the Scarlett’s Red Velvet being tops in the Atlanta stores. You’ll have to do your own taste test.

There are currently 66 cupcake flavors and the menu is changed twice a year. Each day there is a set menu of 12 different cupcakes plus one or two specials with Sunday being bakers choice day. You can check online daily at www.gigiscupcakesusa.com to see which flavors are available.

Coughlin recommends that you call ahead and place an order if there’s a certain flavor that you want. Since this is a bakery, they do run out. When the Merry Margarita’s are gone, they’re gone. For two dozen cupcakes or more you can place a special oder with custom colors. You can also special order mini-cupcakes.

Gigi’s will offer cupcake towers for parties, weddings and other special events. There is a delivery fee for setting these up. To place a special order contact Deena@gigisattheforum.com.

Coughlin is excited about the opening of Gigi’s. She commented that, “It will give us a sweeter community. Cupcakes are a fun, feel good product. There’s nothing like a cute little decorated cake to make your day.” Stop by Gigi’s at the Forum to “make your day” sometime soon.
