If your student needs the SAT score to start college in four years, now is the best time to start preparing! While registering for the October deadline, you may also want to look into the other upcoming test dates in November, December, January, March, May and June. Encourage your student to see the exciting possibilities that the future holds. While teaching for the University of Georgia for the last seven years, one of my course required assignments was for students to write a 'Dear John' or a 'Dear Emily' letter. In this assignment, students who were graduating had to include wisdom and mentor-mentee insight as to what they would suggest children do (or not do) in order to become successful in life. One of the many single personal-best leadership tips was to start preparing for the SAT early. Moreover, such personal-best experiences included a 'departure' from the status quo. All student leaders challenge processes and as parents, our job is to enable our children to get the best results. If your children are bored or wondering what to do this summer, now is the time to check into SAT basics. If your child does well in math, but needs help in writing or critical reading, or if you are not sure what the scaled scores represent with the final scores, now is the time to plan ahead.
