Traffic Delays Ahead: I-85 Repairs Will Require Lane Closures

The Georgia DOT says the interstate between Jimmy Carter Blvd. and Ga. 20 will get new asphalt during overnight repairs this week and next.

If you’re planning to use Interstate 85 between Norcross and Buford at night during the next two weeks, get your brake foot ready, because traffic delays are expected.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said in a news release that planned road repairs will require lane closures on weeknights into the first week of August.

The DOT will close up to three lanes between JImmy Carter Boulevard and Ga. Hwy 20 each day between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Weather permitting, the work should be completed by the morning of Friday, Aug. 7.

“There is no good time to work on the interstate in Gwinnett County but the best of the worst times is overnight weekdays so that is our plan,” Georgia DOT spokesman Brent Cook said in the news release. The payoff will be a smoother ride for motorists.

Crews will work overnights to remove and replace damaged asphalt.
