New Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Peachtree Corners, Gwinnett

The next winter storm system is expected to arrive in North Georgia Friday; 1 inch of snow and .1 inch of ice are possible.

Another round of wintry weather is expected to hit north Georgia this weekend, prompting the National Weather Service to issue weather alerts Thursday afternoon.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday for most of metro Atlanta.

The area includes the following counties:

Barrow, Carroll, Clarke, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Greene, Gwinnett, Haralson Morgan, North Fulton, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Paulding, Polk , Rockdale, South Fulton, Taliaferro, Walton and Wilkes.

The weather service says up to an inch of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice are possible.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW, SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM FRIDAY TO 1 PM EST SATURDAY.

LOCATIONS: PORTIONS OF NORTH GEORGIA, INCLUDING THE ATLANTA METROPOLITAN AREA.

HAZARD TYPES: SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY.

ACCUMULATIONS: UP TO 1 INCH OF SNOW AND 0.1 INCHES OF ICE.

TIMING: SNOW BEGINS FRIDAY EVENING, TRANSITIONS TO SLEET AND THEN FREEZING RAIN OVERNIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY.

IMPACTS: UP TO 1 INCH OF SNOW AND UP TO ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE ARE POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THESE ACCUMULATIONS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT. ICE ACCUMULATIONS ON TREES AND POWER LINES IS POSSIBLE. SOME TREES AND POWER LINES COULD COME DOWN CAUSING POWER OUTAGES.

The weather is expected to be worse farther north, with a Winter Storm Warning issued for Friday north of line from Chatsworth to Ellijay to Cleveland. As much as three inches of snow could fall in the warning area.
