Zoes Kitchen in Peachtree Corners Fails Health Inspection

Undercooked chicken and dirty dishes helped the eatery earn a grade of 67-U after a May 5 inspection.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA -- An inspection Saturday at Zoes Kitchen in Peachtree Corners didn't go so well for the fast-casual eatery.

The restaurant earned a failing score of 67-U from the inspection.

The main issues? Dirty dishes, undercooked chicken and paperwork problems.

The report from the inspection says that plates, a tomato slicer, a lemon cutter, a salad spinner and food storage containers -- all of which were supposedly clean -- still had visible food debris on them.

Chicken that was cooked raw on a grill was not heated all the way to 165 degrees, as it's supposed to be, before being placed in a hot holding unit as done, inspectors said.

And inspectors say they found forks, knives and cups stored on the floor and food in the cooler that had frozen solid.

The restaurant didn't have a bodily fluids cleanup kit and was missing several pieces of required paperwork, including documentation that salmon, advertised as farm-raised, was in fact farm-raised.

As is customary, inspectors asked restaurant employees to correct as many of the problems as they could and planned a follow-up inspection for 10 days later.

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100.

Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points.

Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.

Founded in 1995, Zoes Kitchen is a fast-casual restaurant chain with 170 locations in 18 states.
