A second AED was stolen last week from the city’s baseball fields, Sandy Springs said Thursday morning.

“This goes beyond the mere taking of equipment,” said Mayor Rusty Paul. “These thefts have life safety impacts on the community. For someone experiencing a cardiac arrest, the presence of an AED can literally be the difference in survival.”

Automated External Defibrillators are commonly used to automatically diagnose life-threatening cardiac arrest and treat through defibrillation, which allows the heart to resume a normal rhythm. The city maintains portable AED units at its city parks, in addition to city-owned facilities and in police and fire units.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the stolen AED units and information on those responsible are asked to contact Sandy Springs Police at 770-551-6900 or via the Tipsoft Application found on the Sandy Springs Police Department’s Facebook page.
