Crews Repair Sinkhole On Roswell Road; All Lanes Now Open

The sinkhole formed Wednesday afternoon following a water main break between Northridge Parkway and Hightower Trail in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Nearly two days after a water main break resulted in a sinkhole along Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, the Georgia Department of Transportation has completed the necessary work to reopen all lanes of the major highway.

The agency said early Friday that all lanes on the road near Northridge Parkway are back open for motorist to use. Tori Brown, a spokesperson for the Georgia DOT, said the lanes reopened around 5 a.m. May 5.

The development comes nearly 48 hours after the break forced the city to close all lanes of the highway, effectively snarling the May 3 evening commute. City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management crews eventually arrived on the scene to cap the break so GDOT can begin to assess the situation.

"GDOT thanks you all for your patience," the agency's Metro Atlanta District added on its Twitter page. "Have a safe commute this a.m."
