ALS Association of Georgia hosts annual Educational Symposium, Living for Today, Learning for Tomorrow – Saturday, June 27, 2015
Atlanta, GA (June 23, 2015) – The ALS Association – Georgia Chapter will host their annual Educational Symposium, Living for Today, Learning for Tomorrow on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, from 9am to 4pm. Co-sponsors of this event are AMS Vans, Mobility Works, and Synapse Biomedical, Inc.
This informative event brings together patients, caregivers, medical professionals and community partners to discuss the latest developments in the treatment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Participants in this annual event will learn about current medical and psychosocial clinical care standards in ALS, and will be provided with the latest information regarding respiratory, mobility and speech issues; symptom management; nutrition; communication; caregiver support; end-of-life issues; and legal and financial issues; and veteran benefits.

The keynote speaker will be Lucie Bruijn, Ph.D., Chief Scientist for The ALS Association, and she will be speaking on ALS Research: Challenges and Opportunities since the Ice Bucket Challenge of Summer 2014. Additional topics include:
· Ask the Experts Panel, featuring local ALS Clinic Directors, Dr. Michael Rivner of the ALS Certified Center of Excellence at Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta/Macon and Dr. Jonathan Glass of Emory ALS Center in Atlanta;

· Planning for the Future with Bryan Freeman of Habersham Funding, LLC and Danielle Cefalu, JD, CELA, of Hurley Elder Care Law; and
