Public park, housing and shops to replace aging Sandy Springs retail center (ajc.com) — Aging North River Shopping Center on Roswell Road will be transformed into a $200 million mixed-use hub with a public park, 336 apartments, 85 townhomes, and new shops and restaurants in northern Sandy Springs. City leaders say the project, along with the Embassy Row redo, is intended to bring more walkable, live-work-play energy to this part of town.
2. Police shut down Nubia Café after weekend shooting in Sandy Springs (fox5atlanta.com subscription) — Sandy Springs police have shut down Nubia Café on Roswell Road after a pre-dawn weekend shooting left two men injured, including the alleged gunman. Investigators say the business was operating as an illegal after-hours club and was cited for lacking required state licenses and city permits following a joint inspection with fire and code officials.
3. Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center reveals upcoming season lineup with Jay Leno's nationwide tour (fultonneighbor.com) — Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center is rolling out a new season that brings Jay Leno's nationwide tour to Byers Theatre in January 2027, plus a Vienna Girls Choir concert and a Magical Cirque Christmas show. The lineup also includes an Atlanta Symphony Orchestra New Year's Eve performance, with tickets for these events going on sale later this month.
4. Waffle House explains why it fired viral rapper Rockstar Riley (fox5atlanta.com) — A former Waffle House worker who once clocked in at a Sandy Springs location was fired after repeatedly filming music videos and other promotional content on company property without permission, according to the chain. Waffle House says it warned the rapper known as Rockstar Riley several times before terminating him, while he's now leaning on his viral fame and a GoFundMe campaign.
5. Dunwoody Planning Commission gives green light to projects that will expand housing options (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Dunwoody's Planning Commission has advanced several rezoning and land-use changes, including a project tied to a 21-lot subdivision already approved just across the line in Sandy Springs on Spalding Drive. Commissioners also backed new townhomes near Perimeter Center and an indoor pickleball facility at the Marcus Jewish Community Center, despite some neighborhood noise concerns.
