Armed Carjacking Suspects Arrested Following Police Chase
Two of the suspects, who are accused of carjacking a motorist in Sandy Springs, were captured late Monday evening by Dunwoody police.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- An "epic" night of teamwork among area police departments resulted in these officers hauling in suspects accused of an armed carjacking Monday evening in Sandy Springs.
On its Facebook page, the Dunwoody Police Department shared details of its role in the case, which it said "can be best described with the following words...teamwork, persistence, edge of your seat, and exhausting."
Shortly after 8 p.m. Dec. 11, Sandy Springs police were called to a report of an armed carjacking in the area of Stratford Court, which is located off Pitts Road west of Spalding Drive. The armed suspects, who were traveling in a red Chevrolet Suburban, stole the victim's white Lexus and left the area, Dunwoody police said.

Two Dunwoody officers later saw the vehicles on Perimeter Center West near Ashford Dunwoody Road and tried to conduct a traffic stop. However, both vehicles took off in different directions "in an effort to elude officers," the agency added. The Suburban became snarled in traffic, providing officers a prime opportunity to take the suspects in custody. Unfortunately, the driver fled on foot and was seen a few times in the Ravina Drive area, but managed to evade officers for the time being.
While this was unfolding, officers pursued the stolen Lexus as it led police on a chase along Ashford Dunwoody Road, Chamblee Dunwoody Road, North Shallowford Road, Savoy Drive and Interstate 285. Dunwoody police said the Lexus evaded capture, and officers opted to end the pursuit.

The dramatic series of events didn't end there, as an Dunwoody officer at the Ashford Dunwoody Road scene "was confident the suspect from the earlier foot pursuit around Ravinia would eventually come out and make a run for the MARTA Station."
That officer's hunch proved to be correct, as the cop observed the suspect crossing Ashford Dunwoody Road towards Perimeter Mall. When he saw the officer approaching, the suspect fled on foot and ran into the parking deck.
Officers put out a call for assistance, and Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Brookhaven and MARTA police descended onto the area. The suspect tried to escape one last time, but he was unsuccessful and was taken into custody. No one was injured in the chase.
"We'd like to sincerely thank our hardworking officers and our neighboring jurisdictions for the great assist," Dunwoody police added. "We owe you one!"
Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham said the carjacking victim was not injured, and investigators have two suspects in custody at this time.
