Man Dies After Falling Into Chattahoochee River

Sandy Springs police say the victim fell from a cliff, hit some rocks at the base and went into the river Saturday evening.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The body of a 25-year-old man was recovered Saturday evening after he fell from a cliff into the Chattahoochee River, Sandy Springs police said.

A group was tubing in the river around 8:30 p.m. June 2 when the men stopped at a location with a rope swing and rock cliffs. The victim, said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham, fell off the cliff, hit some rocks at the base and went into the river.

The victim's friends tried to find him, but were unsuccessful. Cobb County fire and swift water rescue crews located the victim at Sandy Point Park at 3700 Akers Drive. Christian Collis, 25, of Douglasville, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
