Body Recovered From River Identified As Missing Man
Sandy Springs resident Larry Cavanaugh was reported missing on Feb. 11.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the male whose body was recovered Tuesday morning from the Chattahoochee River in Sandy Springs. The remains of Larry Cavanaugh, 78, were found around 9:30 a.m. Feb. 20 in the area of the Morgan Falls Dam, the Sandy Springs Police Department said.
His identity was confirmed late Wednesday morning by the Medical Examiner's Office. While police do not suspect foul play at this time, the cause and manner of death are still pending, an investigator with the office told Patch.
Cavanaugh was last seen on Sunday, Feb. 11, the same day he was reported missing, police spokesperson Capt. Forrest Bohannon said. His gold BMW 740 was located at Morgan Falls Dam on Thursday, Feb. 15 and search efforts for him "immediately began in the area where his vehicle was located and the surrounding areas," she added.
