Driver Impaled By Railroad Spike On GA-400

The object crashed through the windshield and struck the driver in the neck last week in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- An Alpharetta woman is recovering after she was impaled by a sharp object last month while driving on S.R. 400 in Sandy Springs.

Police were called to the scene around on Saturday, June 25 on the highway just south of the Roberts Drive overpass near the Northridge Road interchange.

The vehicle was traveling southbound on S.R. 400 when a railroad spike traveled through the windshield of a 2016 Mazda 3 Sport and "impaled" the driver in the neck, according to a Sandy Springs police incident report.

Emergency crews with Rural/Metro were dispatched to the scene, and transported the woman to North Fulton Hospital. According to the report, she was rushed into surgery where the spike had to be removed from her neck.

Sandy Springs police say it's unclear where the flying debris originated. According to WSB-TV, co-workers of the woman said she is expected to survive the incident.
