SANDY SPRINGS, GA – Act 3 Productions, the professional-level community theater based in Sandy Springs, is holding auditions for the family-friendly musical, Xanadu. Auditions will be by appointment only and will be held at the Act 3 Playhouse, 6285-R Roswell Road (behind Trader Joe’s in Sandy Springs Plaza), Sandy Springs, Ga., 30328. Xanadu tells the story of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, Ca. in 1980. She hopes to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first roller disco. But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, resulting in chaos. The musical will be Act 3 Productions’ submission for the Metropolitan Atlanta Theater (MAT) awards this season.
Xanadu auditions are open to all ages and are by appointment only Nov. 22 from 6-10 p.m., Nov. 23 from noon to 7 p.m. and Dec. 3 from 3-6 p.m. Those interested should e-mail their full name, gender, age and audition time preference to Patti Mactas, artistic director, at act3productions@aol.com. Adults are asked to prepare and sing two songs and perform two monologues (songs and monologues will be provided). Children are asked to prepare one of the provided songs or sing a song of their choosing. Rehearsals will begin Dec. 17, and performances are scheduled for Jan. 5-8 and Jan. 13-15, 2012.
