Rock Slides Close Lake Forrest Drive Indefinitely
Engineers who reviewed the site say they still have concerns about the instability of the slope and potential for additional rock slides.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The city of Sandy Springs said Thursday that a segment of Lake Forrest Drive will remain close for an "indefinite" period of time.
The city closed the road overnight Thursday between Stewart and Maryeanna drives due to reports of rocks falling into the roadway.
"Structural and geotechnical engineers who reviewed the site today maintain concerns regarding the instability of the slope and potential for additional rock slides," city spokesperson Sharon Kraun said Thursday.

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution and maintain the posted speed limits along the detour routes.
It's no the first time a stretch of Lake Forrest Drive closed related to similar issues. A portion of the road closed in 2013 just south of this location due to similar slope stability issues, Kraun added.
Repairs on that work required Lake Forrest Drive to be closed for several months.
