Holy Innocents' Bears blank Wesleyan 14-0

Pinecrest up next.

In what was billed as the biggest game on the Holy Innocents' regular season football schedule, the Golden Bears came through with flying colors, pulling off a 14-0 shutout win over Wesleyan Friday night at Riverwood.

Holy Innocents' upped their record to 3-1, 1-0 in 5A in the process.

"I'm very proud of the kids,"said Coach Ryan Livezey. "Still - and I know it's the coach in me - we can play better. We make a couple of mistakes and we didn't capitalize a couple of times."

The Bears scored both touchdowns in the second quarter - the first on an amazing 98-yard drive. Fullback Lee Davis had a key third-and-short gain during the series - he was stopped behind the line for an apparent loss but second and third efforts got HI the first down.

Also, a John Galloway to Howard Joe pass on a 4th-and-7th also was big.  The drive ended when sophomore Owen Penn raced 17 yards into the end zone.

On Wesleyan's next series, HI cornerback Sam Jokerst picked off a Wesleyan pass and took it 25 yards to around midfield. A couple plays later, Galloway connected with Harrison Andros for a gain inside the Wesleyan five. Two plays later, Davis took it in from the 4-yard-line to round out the scoring.

Defensively, Charlie Robertson, Jason Grimes, Justin Fashaw and Penn were just some of the outstanding leaders. Fashaw had a tackle for a loss and a sack, both at key times.

Holy Innocents' travels to Pinecrest next Friday for another region contest.
