Hotel Construction Moratorium Approved By Sandy Springs Leaders
The 60-day moratorium was approved to allow the city to review inconsistencies in its zoning code.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs City Council last week approved a 60-day moratorium on accepting land use and development applications for new hotels.
The pause allows city staff to review issues in the zoning code, such as how the city defines hotels, Assistant City Manager Jim Tolbert said.
“In reviewing the code, staff realized that there remain questions related to hotels, including how they are defined within the code which need to be corrected to align with the city’s Development Code and Zoning policies,” he added.

Tolbert added that Sandy Springs has not received any application requests at this time. Sandy Springs staffers will use the next two months to prepare proposed changes and make recommendations to the City Council.

Councilman Tibby DeJulio said he believed it was important for the city to get its zoning code up to date to ensure it has an effective policy in place.
“I think this is a great idea," he said of the moratorium.
