Juanita Joyner Joins The ALS Association - Georgia Chapter
Joyner is the Sandy Springs-based chapter's new care services director.
Atlanta, GA (September 14, 2015) – The ALS Association – Georgia Chapter announces the appointment of Juanita Joyner as the director of care services, effective Aug. 31. Joyner will lead the efforts in providing essential resources, support and services for community members coping with the day-to-day challenges of living with ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Joyner has worked in patient advocacy and support services for 13 years. She most recently served as the reminiscence coordinator for Sunrise Senior Living in Alpharetta where she provided leadership and management for the reminiscence community, an Alzheimer’s division of the residence. Joyner also served as the executive director for The Giving Tree Adoption Agency in Decatur and as a medical social worker for Aseracare Hospice in Atlanta.
She earned a bachelor of science in psychology from Hampton University’s School of Education and Human Development in Virginia and a master of social work from the University of Georgia’s School of Social Work in Georgia.

“Juanita’s understanding of the care management resources needed for those battling a serious illness along with her leadership experience will serve the organization well in its mission to empower people with Lou Gehrig’s disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support,” says Sarah Embro, executive director, The ALS Association of Georgia Chapter.
The ALS Association – Georgia Chapter is the only nationally affiliated not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The ALS Association – Georgia Chapter provides patient consultations, a medical equipment loan program, patient and caregiver support groups, and support for ALS clinics in Atlanta, Augusta and Macon. The local chapter also joins with chapters across the country to support research and participate in federal advocacy initiatives.
