Lake Forrest Drive Reopens in Sandy Springs

A segment of the road was closed March 9 due to falling rocks landing in the roadway.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- After week of having to final alternate routes and follow posted detours, motorists will now be able to navigate freely along Lake Forrest Drive in Sandy Springs.

The city said early Friday afternoon that the road is now back open for vehicular traffic. Crews closed the road March 9 between Stewart and Maryeanna drives due to concerns about the stability of the slope along the street after falling rocks were reported by residents.

This announcement follows the city's assertion that the road would be closed "indefinitely" as crews evaluated the site.

"City crews completed slope maintenance activities, which will allow the road to reopen while additional evaluation is conducted," spokesperson Sharon Kraun added.

These workers also removed several trees located on the top edge of the slope, which were at risk of falling onto the roadway. Temporary jersey barriers were also installed to help contain any future falling rocks, Kraun stated.
