The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Feb. 6 just east of the Cobb County/Sandy Springs border. A BMW X5 SUV was traveling eastbound on I-285 when it was “struck from behind by a Chevy Tahoe,” said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Ron Momon.

The Tahoe then struck the median wall while the BMW came to a stop in the right emergency lane. Momon said the driver of the Tahoe walked across the interstate to the right emergency lane.

“The driver attempted to walk back across the interstate towards his vehicle and was struck by a vehicle,” he added. “The male driver of the Chevy Tahoe was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The driver’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, Momon stated.
