Moratorium Imposed On Gas Stations in Sandy Springs

The City Council on Tuesday approved a 120-day moratorium on new applications for convenience stores and gas stations.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs leaders have applied another set of brakes on gas stations and convenience stores.

At its Dec. 6 meeting, City Council members voted to impose a 120-day moratorium on new applications for those uses throughout the city.

The moratorium, requested by staff members, will give the city time to continue study on locations and design criteria where these facilities are allowed.

It is the second time the city has issued a moratorium on this topic; the first was in January 2015.

“During the past year, we have taken a deep look at development throughout the city as part of our comprehensive planning efforts," said Assistant City Manager Jim Tolbert. "While we are getting close to a completed plan, we have work remaining on a few items, one of which covers convenience and gas retailers. The hold on new applications provides the added time needed to ensure consistency with planning initiatives."

Applications submitted prior to the moratorium will still be considered by the city.
