Lanes Reopen On New Northside Drive, I-285 After 18-Wheeler Hits Bridge, Spills Trash (UPDATE)
Sandy Springs police had to close all lanes on the eastbound side of I-285 so the trash could be cleared.
Update: All lanes on the New Northside Drive bridge and on I-285 have now reopened.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The New Northside Drive bridge over Interstate 285 in Sandy Springs remains closed after a tractor trailer hit a support beam and overturned, dumping trash on the eastbound side of the highway.
Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham said the collision and subsequent spill forced officers to close all lanes on the so the cleanup could take place. All traffic was re-routed around the closure via the exit ramp at the interchange.

Mayor Rusty Paul said on his Facebook page that the collision brought into question the "integrity" of the bridge, forcing the city close off access to motorists.
Sandy Springs police Capt. Mike Lindstrom told Patch all lanes of I-285 reopened around 12:50 p.m. Saturday.

However, New Northside Drive remains closed over the interstate, Patch has reached out to the Georgia Department of Transportation for details on when its crews will inspect the bridge. Return for updates.
