Woman Died In Sandy Springs After Tree Fell On Car: Police

A 38-year-old woman died Thursday in Sandy Springs after a tree fell on her car during a storm, police said.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A woman is dead after a tree fell on her car Thursday afternoon, fire officials in Sandy Springs said.

Aquarius Johnson, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sandy Springs Police said.

The Sandy Springs Fire Department posted online that a tree fell on a car near the 600 block of Mount Paran Road near Jett Road around 1 p.m.

Storms pushed through much of north and central Georgia on Thursday, which caused the tree to fall, Sandy Springs Police said.

"The vehicle was heavily damaged," police said. "The driver had to be extricated by fire personnel."

Johnson was an employee of Atlanta Watershed Management and was driving a City of Atlanta vehicle at the time of the accident, police said.

Rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall fell across portions of north Georgia through Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 were expected along and north of the I-85 corridor, with locally higher amounts possible. That could have led to flooding on area creeks, streams and rivers, as well as roadways and low-lying areas.
