Driver Allegedly Involved In Hit-And-Run Arrested In Sandy Springs
Police said the driver, who fled the scene on GA-400, later ditched his SUV in a private garage at a home off Hammond Drive.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs police have arrested the driver accused of leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident Tuesday morning on GA-400 and later ditched his vehicle in a residential area.
The driver, who was behind the wheel of a silver Lexus SUV, was traveling southbound around 9 a.m. June 27 on S.R. 400 when he was involved in a collision, said Capt. Mike Lindstrom. The driver fled the scene and exited the Hospitality Highway at the Abernathy Road interchange.
Officers gave a be-on-the-lookout for the vehicle, and a patrol officer spotted the SUV on Boylston Drive. However, the male refused to pull over and continued to drive around the neighborhood, Lindstrom told Patch.

"He drives around eluding the police and ends up driving into a private driveway," Lindstrom added.
The driver pulled into the garage, parked the vehicle and left the area. A resident at the home said the motorist appeared to be "unstable on his feet" as he walked away, Sandy Springs police added.

However, the driver, identified as Patrick Daniel Phelan, 46, of Cumming, was later seen by a resident in the neighborhood, who notified authorities of his presence by calling 9-1-1.
"He resurfaced in the same area where we last saw him," Lindstrom told Patch.
Phelan was taken into custody on loitering and prowling charges, but the investigation into the incident remains open. He also had an active warrant issued for his arrest by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Lindstrom added.
