Once Sandy Springs fire crews were able to put out the fire, officers were able to locate the tag number of the vehicle, which confirmed the vehicle’s make and model as well as who it was registered to.

The video shows the suspect flying backwards as the flames from the car grow larger. The officer responding to the scene noted the “entire interior of the vehicle had completely burned away,” the incident report states.

The exterior, the officer added, was also considerably charred.

Officers were able to contact the car’s owner, who told detectives his vehicle had been parked behind the barber shop for several weeks. He also told police someone was in the process of making repairs to the vehicle when the incident occurred.

Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Ron Momon said detectives have no leads in the case, and the suspect remains at large.

Residents are asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) if they have information on this case.
