Police Chase Ends In Crash On I-285 In Sandy Springs

Georgia state troopers found 3 kilograms of cocaine inside the vehicle of the suspect, who fled the scene on foot.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Three vehicles were involved in a crash Thursday afternoon during a police pursuit of a motorist by the Georgia State Patrol in Sandy Springs.

The situation unfolded around 3:40 p.m. Feb. 23 when a trooper attempted to stop a white Nissan Maxima for traffic violations on Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County.

According to the agency, the driver "failed to stop and began to flee."

The motorist continued onto Interstate 285 westbound and eventually crashed into two other vehicles near the S.R. 400 interchange in Sandy Springs. The suspect ditched the vehicle, and fled on foot across the eastbound lanes of I-285.

The Georgia State Patrol said the man remains at large. However, troopers located three kilograms of cocaine inside the suspect’s vehicle, the agency told Patch.

The crash is under investigation by the Sandy Springs Police Department, and the probe into the incident remains active.
