Sandy Springs Council To Buy Land For Park, Roundabouts

The property is bound by Roswell Road to the west, Johnson Ferry Road to the north and Mt. Vernon Highway to the south.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Nearly a month after approving an agreement to help a long-time business find a new home, the Sandy Springs City Council approved moving forward to purchase the land that will be used to build a park and two roundabouts.

City leaders at their Jan. 17 meeting unanimously voted to authorize City Manager John McDonough to sign a purchase agreement to buy the triangle site, which is bound by Roswell Road to the west, Mt. Vernon Highway to the south and Johnson Ferry Road to the north.

The purchase price of the property, owned by W.B. Holdings Triangle LLC, is $4.8 million, City Attorney Wendell Willard said. Tuesday's vote in the affirmative was contingent upon Willard's office giving final approval to the terms of the contract once those details have been ironed out, he added.

Part of the land has been designated by the city as the home a future park near the City Springs project. Another part will be used to construct two roundabouts: one just west of the Johnson Ferry Road, Mt. Vernon Highway and Boylston Drive intersection and another at the Johnson Ferry, Mt. Vernon and Mt. Vernon Towers driveway.

Council members in December approved a settlement relocation for Magic Mike's Automotive to move from its former home on Mt. Vernon Highway at Roswell Road to 6506B Rowell Road for $73,600.
