Sandy Springs Delays Taboo 3000 Alcohol License Request

The attorney for applicant Kenneth Durden told the council he was not able to attend Tuesday's meeting.

The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday voted to delay a request to grant an alcohol license to Taboo 3000.

The council delayed the measure until its Nov. 18 meeting. The attorney for applicant Kenneth Durden said his client was not able to attend Tuesday’s meeting, but will be able to face the council at its upcoming meeting.

Sandy Springs leaders in September approved a 60-day alcohol license for the establishment after it raised questions about its ownership. That temporary license came at the request of City Attorney Wendell Willard, which he said would give him time to track down missing information in the application that would indicate when the closing took place.

Tuesday’s delay also doubled as an extension of the 60-day temporary license, as it was set to expire between Tuesday, Nov 4 and the upcoming meeting.

Taboo has been in the news in the last several months for less than flattering reasons.

Last month, a Brookhaven man was shot and killed behind the facility. Earlier this year, a woman was charged with attacking reality TV star Erica Pinkett, star of the VH1 show “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,” inside the nightclub.

Council members also approved an increase of its Municipal Court administrative fee collected per case from $70 to $75.

The court had been collecting $70 for each case disposed by conviction after trial, acceptance of a guilty plea, acceptance of nolo contendre or any bond forfeiture or voluntary payment of fine. City staff determined the cost to provide and run the court averages $78.72 per case, so the court asked for the increase to help offset expenses.
