Sandy Springs Playhouse Readies for Next Production

You don’t have to go far to see “holiday spirit” in action. Just take a peek inside the doors of Act 3 Productions, the professional-level community theater in Sandy Springs. The theater is busy preparing for which opens Jan. 5, but the two and a half week holiday rehearsal schedule meant a number of Act 3 “regulars” were unable to commit to principal roles.
Artistic Director Patti Mactas, wanting to involve as much of the Atlanta theater community as possible, sent out an S.O.S. offering cameo roles which required less rehearsal time and was thrilled with the response.

“I had hoped a couple of people would be interested, but 12 outstanding local actors, directors and theater managers stepped up to join the production, even though they will have very little stage time,” she said. “Xanadu is our MAT entry this year, so not only did we want to assemble a top-quality cast, but we wanted to give our ‘family’ of actors a chance to participate. This is a wonderful example of the true meaning of community theater, with artists helping each other and we are very humbled and appreciative of the support.”
And, speaking of MAT Awards, with the new additions to the production, "Xanadu's" cast and crew now include 14 MAT winners and nominees. Star power, indeed.
