Second Wellness Event Serves To Replenish Body

Women work to promote self-care

The second installment in a wellness event series geared toward women will focus on replenishing the body with a focus on skin care, fitness and healing.

"Rise Into Wellness" is a three-part series hosted in Roswell by LiebePR at Circle & Moon. The first event focused on calming one's mind, the second event will focus on taking care of one's body, and the third event will focus on feeding the soul with healthy foods that are in season.

On Thursday, Aug. 30, a group of women will enjoy a night of skin care, fitness, and reiki followed by a question and answer panel, according to Tia Greene, owner of LiebePR. Guests will also be treated to mini-facials at a beauty bar, where experts of Lavandula Skin & Yoga will offer tips on how attendees can create a DIY spa experience at home.

Greene said those who are interested in starting a new fitness journey, skin care regimen, or overall routine to have more positive energy, will benefit. The event will be led by Samantha Dickey of Dirty Beauty Skin Care, Dr. Tijana Sefic-Eby of Healthy Being Wellness and Becca Warlick of Lavandula Skin Spa + Yoga.

"At times we forget about the balancing acts of self-love from a meditative state to skin care to fueling your soul with goodness," Greene said in a press release. "As you know, we Liebe (love) having this series at an inspirational space called Circle + Moon for a night of empowerment, positive flows, and self-love. This community is a private club for women entrepreneurs that would love to connect, grow, and empower."

Greene said she wants this to help create a community of women who lift each other up in positive ways.

Those who are interested in attending the free event can sign up through Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/r... Though there is no fee to attend, participants can contribute to the donation-driven event, from which proceeds will benefit the Drake House, a nonprofit which serves homeless women and children in North Fulton.

Creating a movement

At the first event in the series, which took place on July 26,a group of women met at Circle + Moon for a meditation session led by Warlick. After 30-35 minutes of meditation, the group discussed why they were inspired to make a change in their lives.

For Warlick, who is making an effort to "downsize her life," it was about being present in the moment.

"I could tell I was shifting and my energy was sporadic, and I was stressed all over," she said. Through meditation, affirmations, and connecting with nature, she felt grounded once again. She noted that meditation doesn't have to take 45 minutes. People can start by practicing with just a few minutes at a time. She advised: start by counting your breaths, hearing your body and listening to its rhythms, feeling your hands and listening to your breath.

"Notice the rise and fall of your chest and belly when you breathe. Use positive affirmations such as 'I am safe, I am grounded.' Even one word is good," she said.

For Heni Kovacs, owner of Circle + Moon, it was a realization that self-care need not be indulgent, but a necessity, a discipline that required regular adherence like the maintenance of one's car or doing chores. She realized that her life felt cluttered and it was hard for her to focus. To feel less stressed, she needed to take care of not only her body, but also her mind.

"It's like cleaning my house and cutting the grass. It's taking care of myself," she said. "Doing what you need to do to be good to yourself."

This sentiment is at the core of a movement that Greene hopes will take flight within various groups of women -- that self-care need not only be about pampering oneself at the salon, but that it can also be practiced in everyday tasks that help one disconnect from the over-connected world and reconnect with ones thoughts and values.

"I feel that people in today's day and age -- with all the social media and online activity -- are not taking care of themselves," Greene said, adding that she hopes to inspire women to sustain that energy and take care of themselves consistently throughout the year.
