Victim Declines To Prosecute in Sandy Springs Shooting

The man was shot in the back and neck Sept. 21 in the parking lot of the Nevadan Apartments.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- It appears Sandy Springs police will not move forward with bringing to justice those responsible for shooting a man in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

That's because the victim in the Sept. 21 incident has decided not to prosecute the suspects in the shooting, said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Capt. Mike Lindstrom.

Detectives were able to identify potential suspects in the case based on their investigation. However, after speaking with the victim again, Lindstrom said the man decided he did not want to prosecute.

Officers were dispatched to a call just before 11 p.m. of a man who said he was shot in the parking lot at the Nevadan Apartments at 5501 Glenridge Drive.

The victim told police he left his apartment to go to the mailboxes near the front of the complex when he "was shot by an unknown person in a green van." The man received a total of four gunshot wounds to his neck and back. He was treated and eventually released from the hospital.

The Sandy Springs Police Department's response to the shooting is unusual, as it took 25 minutes for responding officers to make it to the location, according to WSB-TV.

Lindstrom told the news station in a statement that the delay between the call and response was "inconsistent" with the agency's standard protocol, and that no units were available since most were assisting with a foot pursuit of a wanted felon.

The captain told WSB that if the district supervisor chose to re-route some of those officers on the chase to the shooting scene, a faster response time would have been the outcome in the case.
