Woman Escapes Injury When Armed Robbery Suspect Shoots SUV

Sandy Springs detectives are investigating the incident, which occurred while the victim was making a cash withdrawal at an ATM.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs police are on the trail of an armed robbery suspect accused of shooting at the SUV of his alleged victim.

Officers responded to a call around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 near the Kroger shopping center at Roswell Road's intersection with Northridge Road.

According to an incident report released by the Sandy Springs Police Department, the victim said she was making a deposit and cash withdrawal at a Chase Bank AMT when the suspect approached her from behind and told her "not to worry."

The suspect, described as a black male wearing blue jeans and a blue-hooded sweatshirt, then pointed a gun at her face and "demanded her money and other belongings," the incident report states.

The suspect pushed the victim with his free hand and grabbed the money that was in her lap, along with her wallet and two Apple iPhones. Items taken during the incident include about $2,000 in cash, two cell phones, multiple credit cards, the victim's driver's license and wallet.

After the robbery, the woman said the man walked northbound through the parking lot while she drove along Roswell Road parallel to the suspect.

At that point, the woman said she "turned into a driveway leading towards the back of the storefronts" of 8331 Roswell Road.

The victim said she tried to block the suspect with her vehicle against a concrete wall and landscaping. At that point, the man ran behind her SUV and "fired several shots at her vehicle," the officer writing the report said.

The vehicle, a 2011 black BMW X6, was struck two times during the gunfire. Police note the suspect fled on foot northbound towards the wood line. One bullet hole was found near the rear hatch of the BMW and the second one was located in the rear bumper near the passenger side brake light.
