Kay Thomasson, 71, was found stabbed to death June 27 inside her home on Old Woodbine Road in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A week and a few days have passed, and Sandy Springs police detectives continue to investigate the homicide of a 71-year-old woman found dead inside her home on the southern side of the city.

No new leads or tips have been submitted in the case of Kay Thomasson's death, said police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham. However, police have released a very general description of the subject, who is described as a black male with a medium build and dark-colored clothing. Information such as the age of the suspect, hairstyle, noticeable scars or tattoos and facial hair have not been released at this time.

Sandy Springs officers conducted a safety check Friday evening at the intersection of Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Windsor Parkway to distribute information and "generate tips leading to the identification and arrest of the person" responsible for the homicide.

Thomasson's body was discovered at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 at her home on Old Woodbine Road, which is located off Peachtree Dunwoody Road. The victim's vehicle, a black Kia Sorrento, was stolen from the home, but turned up a few days later at an apartment complex in Chamblee. Since that bit of news, Worsham said no new information has been unearthed by detectives. A $12,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the homicide.

According to her obituary, Thomasson was born in Savannah and attended The Lovett School. In 1968, she graduated from Auburn University and began her career as a social worker in downtown Atlanta.

"Her life was committed to charity, and she regularly donated her time to caring for others," her obituary adds. "She is lovingly remembered for her selfless giving and her generous heart."

A funeral service will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel in Brookhaven. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities or "a charity close to your heart."
