Today's riddle: Why do some birds fly south for the winter? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Oct. 11 - Joint Venture Acquisition of 'The Palms at Chatham' Multifamily Community announced (savannahbusinessjournal.com) — A 300-unit apartment complex in Savannah's Garden City/Midtown area has been bought by RREAF Holdings and Axonic Capital, with immediate renovations and a rebrand to Linden at Southover planned. Residents can expect interior upgrades, new amenities, and refreshed landscaping, while the owners highlight Savannah's strong job centers like the port, Hunter Army Airfield, and Memorial Health as key drivers for the investment.
2. Man wanted for homicide after killing pedestrian, SPD says (wsav.com) — Savannah police are searching for 40-year-old Ramone Greene, wanted on felony murder and aggravated assault charges after a pedestrian was found fatally shot and struck by a vehicle at President Street and Wahlstrom Road. Residents are urged to avoid approaching Greene, considered armed and dangerous, and to share any information through Crime Stoppers or the SPD mobile app.
3. Hyundai Metaplant hits 4,420 jobs as hybrid lines expand (gcn.com) — Hyundai's massive Metaplant just outside Savannah has already created 4,420 jobs and remains on track to reach 8,500 positions and 500,000 vehicles a year by 2031. The Bryan County complex is adding hybrid production alongside electric models without cutting its long-term targets, and Hyundai is even weighing a major capacity expansion that could further boost the regional economy.
4. Slow start, turnovers sink Savannah State in 34-23 loss to Morehouse (wjcl.com) — Savannah State's football team fell 34-23 to Morehouse after a slow start and costly turnovers, despite a spirited second-half rally led by quarterback Rashawn Truell. Local fans can now look ahead as the Tigers return home to Savannah next Saturday for their homecoming matchup against Fort Valley State, hoping to rebound in front of a hometown crowd.
5. NWS releases summary of reports from Saturday's tornadoes (wsav.com) — From Savannah, forecasters have released an early summary of Saturday's tornadoes that prompted seven warnings across parts of Georgia and South Carolina. Reports detail roof damage, destroyed homes, downed trees, and power lines in Screven, Burke, Allendale, Barnwell, and Aiken counties, giving Savannah-area residents a clearer picture of how close the severe weather came and where cleanup is underway.
