Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:

  1. The Aiken Coroner's Office has identified a body that was recovered from the Savannah River on Friday afternoon. According to officials, the body is of 20-year-old Tyez J. Minter, who was last seen on Feb. 17 jumping off the boat landing at Boeckh Park and never resurfaced. The coroner's office is conducting an autopsy and will release more details as the investigation continues, but it appears that Minter drowned in the river. (WACH.com)
  2. City officials, students, and The Park and Tree Commission are joining forces to celebrate Arbor Day. The 150-year-old holiday celebrates the importance of trees in the circle of life. Windsor Forest Elementary students dedicated their tree to Mrs. Bernestine Batts who passed away in October of 2020. (WSAV-TV)
  3. The Savannah Fire Department is searching for a man who allegedly set a trash fire behind a local convenience store. The fire occurred at a store on the 3900 block of Ogeechee Road and is currently being investigated as a case of arson. Authorities with the department have released a photo of a man who they believe was the one to ignite the fire and anyone with information has been instructed to contact the Savannah Fire Department Arson Investigation Unit.
