The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Savannah.

Morning, people of Savannah! Kayla Harrison here with today's Savannah Daily.
First, today's weather:
Cloudy with a little rain. High: 52 Low: 43.
Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- The city of Savannah is mourning the passing of former First District Alderman David Jones. Alderman Jones, who died this past Thursday, was a distinguished police officer in Savannah, as well as a fierce advocate for the city's west-side neighborhoods and families. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. (WSAV-TV)
- The USS Savannah was commissioned in a Brunswick ceremony on Saturday before heading to its homeport at the Naval Base in San Diego. The event could not be held in Savannah due to an ongoing shipping backlog. Commander Kevin Ray accepted command of the ship, the sixth Navy warship to bear the city's name. (WJCL News Savannah)
- A local organization focusing on arts, literacy, and STEAM programming for Savannah students is inviting the community to join in its fundraising. Loop It Up Savannah is designating the week of Feb. 12 through Feb. 20 as "Love On Loop It Up Week," and is seeking local business owners and individuals to support the organization through small fundraisers. Suggested ideas include offering round-up donations and designated drink specials, holding in-office donation dress-down days, and more. (Savannah Morning News)
