🌱 College Football Stars Teach At Free Camp + "Sound the Alarm" Event

Here are the top four stories in Savannah today:

  1. The city of Savannah is no stranger to seeing many of its high school football stars head off to college and excel at that level. Many of those collegiate stars are now doing their part to help see that that tradition continues with a free football camp. On Sunday afternoon, roughly 150 kids ages seven to fifteen took part in the two-and-a-half-hour camp, with special hands-on instruction by current college players. (WJCL News Savannah)
  2. The American Red Cross of Georgia is hosting a "Sound the Alarm" event on Saturday, May 21 which will offer educational resources and free smoke alarm installations at 415 Goebel Road at the Eastside Regional Center. The Savannah Fire Department will be partnering with the Red Cross for this event, which will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Since the beginning of the "Sound the Alarm" campaign, 1,243 people have been saved as a result of their participation in the program.   3. The Pooler Police Department says one person is dead after a single-vehicle accident on I-95 south at Quacco Road. Police say the accident happened at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday when a dump truck ran into a bridge. The accident is currently under investigation. (WTOC)
  4. On Saturday, more than 100 people came out for the 5th annual Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk for Mental Health in Forsyth Park. This 5k is part of a series that supports the AB Korkor Foundation's mission to help people suffering from mental health issues. The 5k takes place in all 50 states over 50 consecutive days. This series has been instrumental in raising money to help fund things like research and more. (WTOC)
