Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:

  1. Last February, three Revolutionary War-era cannons were found east of Savannah's famous River Street. Now, archeologists have dredged an additional 12 cannons from the Savannah River. While officials believe the cannons are associated with the Revolutionary War, experts are still searching for distinguishing features to verify their exact origin. (WJCL News Savannah)
  2. On Tuesday night, a Chatham County sheriff's deputy and two others suffered serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on I-95. According to Georgia State Patrol, drivers were attempting to exit onto Highway 21 when a truck crashed into a car; that car then hit a minivan, which collided with the patrol vehicle. The deputy and two other drivers were all taken to the hospital with serious injuries. (WJCL News Savannah)
  3. A leader of a violent Savannah-area drug traffic network recently received an 18-year prison sentence for his involvement in the operation. 35-year-old Kashif Collins of Savannah was one of 29 individuals arrested as part of the "Operation Deadlier Catch" investigation. According to investigators, Collins purchased multiple kilograms of cocaine, supervising the lower-level dealers in selling drugs from local "trap houses."(WSAV-TV)
