1. More than 20 years after the release of "The Gingerbread Man," a 1997 movie filmed in Savannah, actor Kenneth Branagh returned to the Hostess City for the 2021 SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Branagh, who directed festival entry "Belfast," gave a talk in which he reflected on his experiences in Savannah and discussed working with the SCAD students for a masterclass. 2. Savannah's freshwater marshes are among the most unusual and wildlife-rich wetlands in the Southeast United States, but like many other natural resources, they are under the serious threat of climate change. Rising sea levels could flood the marshes with salt water, which is deadly to some plants and animals, and could eventually move farther into rivers like the Savannah. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with other local organizations, are taking drastic measures in an effort to save the freshwater marsh and slow the spread of sea water. (The State)
