Rise and shine, Savannah! It's Thursday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Savannah:
- On Wednesday, Savannah Police announced the arrest of Tyrhee Edwards, 25, in connection with several burglaries between Jan. 20 and 21. During one of the attempted burglaries, on E. 34th Street, the homeowner confronted Edwards, then Edwards shot the man in the arm before he fled. Edwards has been charged with burglary, home invasion, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. - The Grassroots Reparations Campaign is petitioning for the square in Savannah named after John C. Calhoun, the seventh vice president of the United States and a defender of slavery, to be renamed for Susie King Taylor, a former slave who went on to become a local and national teacher and trailblazer. There is also a petition to keep the name Calhoun Square; these petitioners say that changing the name "would remove the opportunity to educate residents and visitors about the culture of the time." (WSAV-TV)
- Orlando Scott, a lifelong Savannah resident, community faith leader, and active democratic member, announced his bid for Georgia State Senate 2nd District on Monday. The Georgia State Senate 2nd District covers parts of Savannah, Garden City, and Port Wentworth. Scott said he is "running to make a difference in the lives of the constituents [he] desire[s] to serve." (Savannah Tribune)
