🌱 New Community Center Breaks Ground + 2022 Budget $15 Min Pay

Up and at 'em, Savannah! Here's everything you need to know to get this Thursday started off right.

Here are the top stories in Savannah today:

  1. On Wednesday morning, community and city leaders in Savannah broke ground on a brand new Hudson Hill Community Center. The new $2.8 million facility will replace the old community center which was demolished in 2019 after falling in disrepair. The new 4,800-square-foot community center is expected to open next November and will feature classrooms, offices, large assembly space, and a commercial kitchen. (WJCL News)
  2. The Savannah City Council met this week for the first budget retreat to review the proposed 2022 budget. The $479 million proposal includes an 8.4% salary increase for city employees, which includes raising the minimum hourly pay to $15. If approved, the pay changes will take place in two separate phases; the first phase will take effect Jan. 1 followed by the second phase on July 3. (WSAV-TV)
  3. The Ivory Agency is raising money and collecting donations to help local foster children in Savannah have a better holiday. (WSAV-TV)
  4. The Savannah Gallery of Art will be celebrating its Grand Opening on Friday, Dec. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at 304 E. Bryan Street in the City's Historic District. (Savannah Tribune)
  5. Savannah Holly Days events will return to downtown Savannah this holiday season. (WTOC)
