The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Savannah.

(Patch Media)

Welcome back, Savannah! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started. Here's everything you need to know today in town.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine and patchy clouds. High: 56 Low: 38.

Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:

  1. A new movie theater will soon be opening at a familiar location in Savannah. NCG Cinema is scheduled to open to the public by the end of February at 1901 East Victory Drive, the former site of Victory Stadium 9. It will create "dozens of new jobs" and has immediate openings for both full-time and part-time roles; prospective candidates can attend the theater's job fair on Saturday, Feb. 5 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (WJCL News Savannah)
  2. In a year where U.S. seaports struggled to keep up with cargo surges, the Port of Savannah saw a staggering 20% increase in shipping containers moving across its docks. The Savannah port handled an additional one million container units in 2021 than it did the year prior, setting a new record of 5.6 million in imports and exports. (WJCL News Savannah)
  3. According to Mayor Van Johnson, St. Patrick's Day in Savannah may look a little different this year. While the exact nature of the changes has not yet been announced, Johnson stated that 2022 provides an opportunity for the city to reflect upon what they want the holiday to represent, and to move away from the "drunk fest" it has become. More details are expected in a news conference later this morning. (WTOC)
