Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- The newly-appointed head of the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement explains his vision for the department. John Bush details upcoming listening sessions across Savannah with local pastors and the $1 million that the Savannah City Council used to fund the department's mission. Bush has been in the role since Jan. 18 and has not yet announced dates for the listening sessions or given clear plans for the funds. (WSAV-TV)
- Hugaroo, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, has donated 30,000 stuffed animals to the Savannah Children's Hospital. The stuffed toys are meant to raise the spirits of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses or recovering from traumatic life events. The nonprofit was started in 2005 and has worked with area corporate sponsors such as Belkk which produces Belkie Bears. (All On Georgia)
- Chatham County residents and animal advocacy groups have called for changes to Savannah's ordinances regarding animal services. The group of concerned citizens has partnered with the Georgia Companion Animal Advocacy to submit a proposal outlining the changes they wish to see to the city's ordinances. The proposal includes changes to the number of animals allowed on property, the definitions of animal cruelty, tethering laws, and rules surrounding outdoor animals. (WSAV-TV)
