Here are the top stories in Savannah today:
- At least two Savannah-area public school districts sent notices to parents on Friday due to a viral TikTok trend that warns of nationwide school violence on today's date. Those videos include the threat of school shootings and bombings. Many authorities across the country, including those in Savannah, are dismissing them as not credible but they are also telling parents they are keeping an eye on any developments. - U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg toured the Garden City Terminal with local, state, and federal leaders to see work underway focused on easing supply chain disruptions on Friday. The Department of Transportation is playing a role in helping the Georgia Ports Authority work through shipping congestion issues. (WTOC)
- State health officials in Georgia reported to the federal government on Dec. 16 that approximately 83 percent of inpatient beds and 83 percent of ICU beds in hospitals across the state were occupied. Around 6 percent of inpatient beds and 8 percent of ICU beds statewide were filled by COVID-19 patients, they reported. (Savannah Patch)

- Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter and Assistant Chief Lenny Gunther volunteered to be bell ringers for The Salvation Army on Friday morning at the Kroger on Mall Boulevard. (Facebook)
- Next Tuesday, Chatham County Mobile Food Pantry Distribution will host a drive-by food drive near the Oglethorpe Mall. Anyone needing food assistance in Chatham County is invited to attend. NO more than two households per car. All vehicles must enter the distribution via Hodgson Memorial Drive onto Mall Way and turn left to be directed by police to line up. (Facebook)
