Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:

  1. The traffic jam at Port of Savannah continues to grow. The bottleneck now features more than 40 ships. The congestion is due to ships being rerouted to the port after West Coast ports experience similar traffic jams. The port's cargo volume is breaking records and is significantly higher than forecasted. (WTOC)
  2. The City of Savannah is asking the community to provide input in the proposed redistricting maps for its aldermanic districts. The Metropolitan Planning Commission is tasked with redistricting the six districts. The new maps must be created every ten years to reflect the U.S. census data. The city's population reportedly grew by 8 percent between 2010 and 2020. A public hearing will be held about the maps on Sep. 8. (WSAV-TV)
  3. The Savannah Police Department is searching for a suspect that broke into the Southside Assembly of God church. The incident occurred on Jul. 26 on Tibet Avenue. The suspect was caught on surveillance footage. An unknown amount of cash was stolen during the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department. (fox28media.com)
