Here are the top stories in Savannah today:

  1. In recent weeks, there's been major backlogs at the Port of Savannah, with dozens of ships docked off the coast waiting for their turn to unload. To help address this problem, the White House had announced an $8 million plan that will alleviate backlog and congestion at ports across the country, including at the Port of Savannah. Under the plan, the Port of Savannah will transfer containers via rail and truck further inland so that they can be closer to their final destination. (WJCL News)
  2. Savannah's Salvation Army has officially kicked off its Red Kettle campaign over the weekend. The annual fundraiser helps the salvation army provide food and lodging to those in need within the community throughout the year. For those interested in joining, the organization is looking for volunteers to ring bells and collect money. (WSAV-TV)
  3. Savannah is leading the nation in tenant demand for warehouses as vacancy nears historic lows. (Jacksonville Business Journal)
  4. Johnson High School senior Keon Edwards and Jenkins High School senior De'Angelo Sheppard have been named the Players of the Week from the Savannah Quarterback Club. (WJCL News)
