Here are the top stories today in Savannah:

  1. Georgia state officials have announced that the 2021 Rock 'n' Roll Marathon can proceed as planned next month, as long as runners provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative test result. After consulting with health advisors, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson stated that infection rates in the area have declined enough to relax restrictions on large outdoor gatherings. More than 15,000 runners are expected to participate in the marathon. (Kansas City Star)
  2. Savannah Police are currently investigating a shooting that took place on Ashleigh Lane early Saturday morning. According to officials, an unidentified male victim suffered a single gunshot wound in an incident believed to have occurred in a home. The man's injuries are not life-threatening and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances. (WJCL News)
  3. The fourth Savannah Local Artist Market (SLAM) was held at the Salvation Army baseball field this weekend, giving 75 local crafters, makers, and artists the opportunity to show off and sell their work. (WTOC)
  4. The staff of Savannah's Municipal Archives goes behind the scenes of their work in preserving historical records for the next generation, which involves managing the City's Records Management Program, filing historical research and artifacts, and overseeing the safe and legal disposition of records that have completed their record life cycle.   5. After surviving breast cancer herself, Candler Hospital surgical assistant Lori Smith of Savannah urges other women to perform self breast exams and go for their annual mammograms. (fox28media.com)
