Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon May Be Canceled + Politicians Talk Solar

Here are the top stories today in Savannah:

  1. The mayor of Savannah says city officials are weighing whether to pull the plug on next month's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon because of concerns that the event could cause a spike in COVID-19 infections. More than 15,000 runners, most of them from out of town, have signed up for the big race the weekend of Nov. 6. Mayor Van Johnson said he's concerned unvaccinated runners and tourists will infect others while visiting local shops and restaurants. (AP)
  2. U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff and U.S. Secretary Of Energy Jennifer Granholm made a visit to Savannah Friday, to talk with state and city leaders on why communities should invest in solar energy. They said that the state of Georgia has the largest solar manufacturer in Western Hemisphere, one reason for the state to lead the way in clean energy. (fox28media.com)
  3. The Savannah Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 100 block of Coastal Place. Police say they arrived on scene around 6 p.m. and found a man in his 40′s with life threatening injuries, who was taken to the hospital. (WTOC)
  4. A man was shot on the 700 block of Lavinia Street in Savannah over the weekend. An investigation is currently underway. The victim's injuries are not life-threatening. (WJCL News)
  5. The Savannah Police are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian. Police say the woman was struck around 4:00 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Bay St. and MLK Jr. Blvd. The victim received serious injuries. (WSAV-TV)
